SPELL results

The Colorado State Library's SPELL projects have generated many promising impacts in reaching and serving low-income parents of children birth to three with library and early literacy services and resources, as well as a wide variety of strong collaborations between public libraries and community organizations. Please visit the Research section to view a comprehensive toolkit to help communities design their own SPELL projects; case studies and infographics of the 8 SPELL prototypes; a white paper recommending eliminating fines on children's materials and reconsidering fees on lost and damaged children's materials; a revised blueprint of recommendations for supporting low-income parents with young children; research findings from parent surveys and focus groups; and more.

About Spell

Colorado State Library's SPELL Projects -- SPELL: The Research and Putting SPELL into Action -- have been generously funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The planning team has reviewed existing studies and undertaken new research to create a blueprint of promising practices for libraries and other agencies to deliver early literacy information and resources to low-income families with young children.
