Individual Attention

The participants work one-on-one with the professional in a mutually-respectful relationship.

Colorado Migrant Education Program
Home visits are done on an individual basis by the MEP staff and Cultural Ambassador
Cooking Matters

Each Cooking Matters Signature Courses teach kids and parents important lessons about self-sufficiency in the kitchen.-- Our Program: Our Signature Courses
From Our Impact
"When families practice what they’ve learned during the six-week course—how to plan, purchase, and prepare healthy, tasty, and affordable foods at home—they are winning the fight against childhood hunger and protecting themselves from the destructive consequences of poor child nutrition."

From Our Program: Our Signature Courses
"Participants practice fundamental lessons including knife skills, reading ingredient labels, cutting up a whole chicken, and making a healthy meal for a family of four on a $10 budget. Adults and teens take home a bag of groceries after each class so they can practice the recipes taught that day."

Cool Culture
The Cool Culture Family Pledge (see appendix)
As a member of Cool Culture, each family signs a pledge to:
  • have only my family use my Family Pass; an adult with the last name on the Pass will be present,
  • explore as many of the 90 museums, zoos and gardens as possible,
  • try out new museums my family has not been to, &
  • ensure my family has a FUN museum trip by asking my Cultural Liaison for tips and info.

Dental Aid and Cavity Free at Three
From Dental Aid's Oral Health Education
Individual Patient Education
All Dental Aid patients receive individualized oral health education during each visit.  Patients (and when the patient is a child, their parents) receive information on the benefits of brushing, flossing, fluoride, good nutrition, and regular dental visits. Patients and parents are also asked to commit to positive oral health behavior changes for themselves and their children. The result is an increase in awareness of good oral health care, not only for the patient, but for the entire family.

With Cavity Free at Three’s Self Management Goals (in both English and Spanish), the caregiver chooses only 1 or 2 of the 9 goals that they indicated when, how often and the likelihood of accomplishing. The staff works individually with the caregiver to fill out this goal sheet and follows up on it at subsequent visits. No one can remember 9 goals. Focus on only 1 or 2 goals at a time and have the participant choose which 1 or 2.

Nurse-Family Partnership
From Program Approach
Relationship-based: nurses develop close, trusting relationships with the mother and her child
Raising A Reader
Each week, the children each bring home bright red book bags filled with 2 to 4 award-winning books. At "graduation," the children each get a blue bag and get their own individual library cards.
Reach Out and Read Colorado
Parents received individual counseling from their child's medical provider regarding the benefits of reading to their child.

From Participant Perspectives on Reach Out and Read Colorado
2. Experience of families during their pediatric checkups (referred to as Well Child visits)
"Nearly two‐thirds of families receive their Reach Out and Read book directly from the doctor and another 23 percent of families receive the book before the doctor enters the exam room for the checkup. This allows the doctor to address literacy in conjunction with the book during the course of the visit. Seventy‐four percent of providers spend at least a minute discussing reading, and over a quarter of providers spend three minutes or more. All families are primarily told about the importance of reading while additional messages‐ school readiness, reading duration and incorporation into routine, age appropriateness, and other benefits of reading‐ varied by the child’s age and the language spoken at home."

Ready to Read Corps
Ready to Read also schedules personalized in-home visits. Because some communities, for example, Latino and Somali, feel more comfortable talking about Ready to Read among friends at a home, Ready to Read Training home parties can be scheduled.
